Joan Miró

Hello. My name is Joan Miró. I was born on April 20th, 1893, in a sunny place called Barcelona, in Spain. When I was a little boy, I didn't want to play with toys as much as I wanted to draw. I loved holding a crayon and making squiggles and lines on paper. The world looked like a big, beautiful painting to me, and I wanted to put all the colors I saw into my art.

As I grew up, I decided to become a painter. But I didn't want to paint things exactly as they looked. That seemed a little boring. Instead, I liked to paint my dreams. I would close my eyes and imagine funny shapes, bright red suns, and twinkling blue stars. My paintings are like a secret code made of colors and symbols. Some people say my art looks like a child made it, and I think that's the best compliment ever. It means my paintings are full of fun and imagination.

I painted and made sculptures for my whole life, which was a very long and happy one. I lived to be 90 years old. Today, my colorful, dreamy paintings are in big museums all around the world. I hope when you see my art, it makes you smile and reminds you that your dreams and imagination are magical things. You can be an artist, too.
