Just want John Snow?
Hello! My name is John Snow. I was a doctor a long, long time ago in a big city called London. I loved being a doctor because I could help people feel better. It was my job to solve puzzles and find out why people were getting sick so I could help them get well again.
In the year 1854, many people in my neighborhood got a very bad tummy ache. It was a sickness called cholera. Everyone was sad and worried. I wanted to solve this mystery! I walked all around the city and talked to the people who were sick. I made a special map and put a little dot on it for every house where someone had a tummy ache.
Looking at my map, I saw a clue! All the dots were crowded around one water pump on a street called Broad Street. I had an idea. What if the water was making people sick? The water looked clean, but I had a feeling it was carrying invisible germs. I told the town leaders, and they took the handle off the pump so no one could drink the water.
And guess what? People stopped getting the bad tummy ache! My discovery helped everyone understand how important it is to have clean water to drink. I lived to be 45 years old, and people remember me for solving the mystery and helping make cities everywhere safer and healthier for you and me.
