Just want Karl Benz?
Hello, my name is Karl Benz, and I am the inventor of the very first automobile. My story begins on November 25th, 1844, when I was born in a country called Germany. My father was a locomotive driver, and watching his big, powerful train chug along the tracks filled me with wonder. Those amazing machines sparked a love for engineering inside me. I knew from a young age that I wanted to build things that could move. To follow this dream, I worked hard and went to the University of Karlsruhe to study mechanical engineering. I wanted to learn everything I could about engines and how to design my own creations.
After finishing my studies, I had a big idea that many people thought was impossible. I dreamed of creating a “horseless carriage,” a vehicle that could move on its own without being pulled by an animal. In 1871, I took a big step and opened my own workshop in a city called Mannheim. There, I spent all my time tinkering and building. My first goal was to create an engine that was small enough to fit on a carriage but powerful enough to make it go. It took years of hard work, but in 1879, I finally received a patent for my two-stroke gas engine. This was a very important moment because it was the key piece I needed to build my dream machine.
With my new engine, I finally had the power source for my horseless carriage. I worked day and night, putting all the pieces together. In 1885, my invention was complete. I called it the Benz Patent-Motorwagen. It was a light, three-wheeled vehicle with my engine attached to the back. On January 29th, 1886, I received the official patent for it, which means history remembers it as the world's first true automobile. At first, people didn't know what to think of it. When I drove it down the street, its noisy engine would clatter and pop, and many people were scared of my strange new creation. They were used to the quiet clip-clop of horses, not the sound of an engine.

When I drove it down the street, its noisy engine would clatter and pop, and many people were scared of my strange new creation. They were used to the quiet clip-clop of horses, not the sound of an engine.
Many people doubted my invention, but my wonderful wife, Bertha Benz, believed in it completely. She knew the car was more than just a noisy toy; it was the future. To prove it to the world, she did something incredibly brave. In August of 1888, without telling me, she took our two sons on a long journey in the Motorwagen. It was the world's first long-distance car trip. Along the way, she had to be very resourceful, using her hatpin to clean a fuel line and finding a special kind of fuel at a pharmacy. Her amazing adventure showed everyone that my automobile was reliable and could be used for real travel. Bertha's bravery helped change everyone's mind.
After Bertha's famous trip, people started to see the magic in my invention. My company, Benz & Cie., became very successful, and by 1900, we were making cars for people all over. Years later, my company joined with another to become the company that is known today as Mercedes-Benz. I lived to be 84 years old, and I got to see my dream of a horseless carriage completely change how people travel around the world. It fills me with pride to know that a little boy's love for machines helped put the whole world on wheels.
