Just want Mary Leakey?
Hello! My name is Mary. When I was a little girl, I loved to draw and explore. I especially loved looking for old things hidden in the ground. Finding them felt like a treasure hunt! I would pretend I was a detective, looking for clues about people and animals who lived a long, long time ago.
When I grew up, I went on a big adventure to a warm, sunny place called Africa. My husband, Louis, came too! We spent our days carefully digging in the dirt. One day, I found something amazing—footprints! But these were not regular footprints. They were made by some of the very first people, millions of years ago! I also found very old bones, called fossils. They were like puzzle pieces that helped us learn how people lived long ago.
I lived a long and happy life filled with exciting discoveries. The old bones and footprints I found are now safe in museums for everyone to see. They help tell the wonderful story of where we all came from, and I am so happy I got to help find the first few pages of that story.
