The story

Mileva Marić: A Love for Science

Hello, my name is Mileva. When I was a little girl, a long time ago in the year 1875, I loved to look up at the night sky. I saw so many twinkling lights. To me, they looked like puzzles and patterns. My favorite game was to count everything I could see. I loved figuring out how things worked. It was my favorite way to play and learn about the big, wide world around me.

When I grew bigger, I wanted to learn even more about science and math. Not many girls did that back then, but I knew it was what I wanted to do. In the year 1896, I went to a very big school in a city called Zurich. Can you believe I was the only girl in my whole class? It was there I met a new friend. His name was Albert, and he loved science just like me. We spent so much time talking about big ideas. We shared our notebooks and helped each other solve tricky problems. It was so much fun to learn together.

I lived a long life filled with curiosity and learning. People remember me today because I was one of the very first women to study amazing things like physics and math at a big university. I hope my story reminds you that asking questions is a wonderful thing, and anyone, no matter who they are, can be a scientist and fall in love with the magic of our world.
