Just want Pierre de Coubertin?
Hello. My name is Pierre de Coubertin. I was born a long, long time ago in a country called France in the year 1863. When I was a little boy, I loved to play. I would run very fast. I would jump very high. I loved playing all kinds of games. I believed that playing sports was a happy way to make new friends. It also helps you stay strong and healthy. Playing together is so much fun.
When I grew up, I had a big, friendly idea. It was a dream I had. I dreamed of a giant festival for everyone in the world. Friends from every country could come together to play sports. My idea wasn't about who was the best winner. It was about having fun and being friends with people from everywhere. I wanted to bring back special games that happened a long, long time ago in a place called Greece.
My dream came true. In the year 1896, we had the very first Olympic Games. It was so exciting. I designed something special for the games. I drew five colorful rings that all link together. The rings look like they are holding hands. They show that all the friends from around the world are connected. I lived to be 74 years old. My dream of making friends through sports still happens today every time we watch the amazing Olympic Games.
