The story

A Story by Ziraldo

Hello! My name is Ziraldo, and I want to tell you a story. I was born in a beautiful country called Brazil, a long, long time ago in the year 1932. Ever since I was a little boy, my favorite thing in the whole world was to draw. I drew on everything I could find. I drew on paper, on walls, and even on napkins! It was so much fun to use my pencils and crayons to make pictures come to life. Drawing made me feel happy and full of ideas.

I want to introduce you to my most famous friend. He is a character that came from my imagination. His name is O Menino Maluquinho, which means The Nutty Boy. He is a super happy boy with lots of energy who loves to play all day. Do you know what the funniest thing about him is? He wears a funny hat on his head—it is a cooking pot! He thinks it is the best hat in the world. The Nutty Boy loves to have big adventures and make new friends. I loved drawing him for everyone to meet.

I got to draw and write stories for a very long time, and it made me so happy to see children smile when they read my books. I lived to be 91 years old. Even though I'm not here anymore, my friend The Nutty Boy and all my other characters still live in books. They are always ready to play and make new friends like you.
