The story

Who Makes the Magic in Your Book?

When you open a book, what do you see. Big, bright pictures. Wonderful words that tell a story. Maybe it’s a story about a sleepy little bear. Or a story about a brave knight in shiny armor. It feels like magic, doesn't it. The pages turn and a whole new world pops up. Who makes all this magic happen. We do. We are the team that makes the magic. We are Authors and Illustrators.

I am the Author, and I gather all the words. I write the story to make you giggle or wonder. I am the Illustrator, and I paint with all the colors. I draw the pictures so you can see the sleepy bear yawn. We work together, hand in hand. People have been telling stories with pictures for a very, very long time. So long ago that they drew on the walls of caves. It used to be very hard to make books for everyone. But then, a very smart person made a special machine around the year 1440. This machine could make lots and lots of books so everyone could share our stories.

We help make all the books you see. Funny books that make you laugh out loud. Quiet books that help you feel sleepy. Big adventure books that take you to faraway lands. Every time you draw a picture of your family, you are an illustrator. Every time you tell a friend a silly story, you are an author. You have stories inside you, too. What story will you tell today.
