The World's Tiniest Mover

Have you ever felt the wind tickle your toes with soft sand at the beach. Whoosh. The little grains of sand dance and fly away to a new spot. Or have you ever jumped in a big, muddy puddle after it rains. Splish, splash. The brown dirt swirls around your boots and moves from one side of the puddle to the other. A tiny bit of dirt from here goes over there. A little pebble from over there goes over here. It happens all the time, very slowly and quietly. I am always working, moving little bits of our big, beautiful world around. I am like a secret helper, always busy moving things from one place to another.

Hello there. My name is Erosion. It is my job to move little pieces of the earth. I am a tiny mover. My best helpers are Water and Wind. When it rains, drip, drop, drip, drop, Water helps me carry tiny bits of soil down a hill. When a big river rushes, whoosh, Water helps me move bigger pebbles along the bottom. My other friend, Wind, loves to play. Whee. Wind helps me blow soft sand across the desert to make big, sandy hills. I work all day and all night, sometimes very slowly and sometimes a little bit faster. I never stop my important job of moving tiny bits of the world.

It might sound a little messy, but I am like an artist for the world. I am a sculptor. I help make the world beautiful and new. I carry sand to the ocean to make soft, warm beaches for you to build sandcastles on. I slowly carve big, amazing canyons with my friend, the river. Next time you find a smooth, round stone in a stream, you can say hello to me. I helped make it that way. I am always working, painting and shaping our wonderful world for everyone to see.
