The story

The Earth's Big Puzzle

Imagine a time a super long, long time ago. The whole world was like one big, cozy blanket. All the mountains and deserts and green forests were best friends, all snuggled up together. Big dinosaurs could walk from one side to the other and never get their feet wet. It was one giant piece of land. I was that giant land. My name is Pangaea.

After a very, very long sleepy time, I started to stretch and wiggle. Creak. Groan. I broke into big pieces, like a yummy cookie. These pieces are the big lands you live on now, called continents. For a long, long time, people didn't know we were all once connected. But then, a smart man named Alfred Wegener looked at a map on January 6th, 1912. He saw that the edge of one land looked like it could hug the edge of another, just like a puzzle. He found the same sleepy old animal fossils on lands that were far, far apart. He knew it was a secret clue that I was once all one big piece.

My big land pieces are still moving today. They move super, super slowly. They move about as fast as your little fingernails grow. Even though the lands are far apart now, with big blue oceans in between, they are still part of the same wonderful Earth. I am the Earth's big secret story. I remind everyone that a very long time ago, we were all part of one big, happy family. And we still are, all together on our beautiful world.
