The story

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Hello there. Before you know my name, I want you to imagine a warm, sunny day. Can you feel the sunshine on your face. Now, picture a big, wide river flowing by. A steamboat goes toot-toot. I am full of stories about that river. Stories about secret islands and a boy who loves to play. You can run barefoot in the grass and look for treasure inside my pages. I am a book, and my name is The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. I am here to tell you all about my friend Tom and the fun he has every single day.

I was made by a very kind man with a big, bushy mustache. His name was Mark Twain. When he was a little boy, he lived near a giant river called the Mississippi River. He had lots of fun adventures, just like Tom. In the year 1876, he took all his happy memories and put them inside of me. He used a pen and paper to write about Tom tricking his friends into painting a fence. He wrote about Tom looking for treasure in a spooky, dark cave. Mark Twain filled me with sunshine, friendship, and lots of giggles.

For many, many years, children just like you have opened my covers. They go on adventures with Tom and his best friend, Huck. Even though I was made a long, long time ago, the fun inside me never gets old. I show you that if you use your imagination, any day can be a fun adventure. Whenever you want to float on a raft or explore a new place, just open a book. A whole new world is waiting for you.
