Just want The BFG?
I am a story waiting for you on a bookshelf. Shhh. Can you hear the whispers inside my pages? They tell of big, giant footsteps. Stomp. Stomp. They tell of a bubbly drink where the fizz goes down instead of up. Pop. Fizz. Inside me, you can see sparkly, wonderful dreams floating in glass jars like little stars. I hold a special secret. It is a secret about a friendship between someone very, very big and someone very, very small.
Hello there. I am a storybook, and my name is The BFG. That stands for the Big Friendly Giant. A kind man with a happy twinkle in his eye dreamed me up. His name was Roald Dahl, and he loved telling magical stories. He sat in his special writing chair and used his typewriter to tap, tap, tap out all my words. He wanted to get every part of my adventure just right. He finished my story on September 13th, 1982, in a little hut in his garden. Another wonderful man, named Quentin Blake, drew all my pictures with his wiggly, scribbly, funny lines. He drew my best friends so you could see them. One is a very tall, gentle giant with enormous ears for listening to secrets and dreams. The other is a little, brave girl in pajamas named Sophie. Roald Dahl wanted to tell a very special story about friendship. He wanted everyone to know that even if someone looks very different or very, very big, they can be the kindest and most gentle friend of all. He imagined a wonderful giant who didn't eat people like other giants. No, not at all. Instead, this giant caught good dreams in a net and kept them in sparkly jars. Then, he would use his long trumpet to blow the happy dreams into children's bedrooms while they were sleeping so they would feel safe and loved.

For many, many years, children just like you have opened my pages to go on an adventure. They fly to Giant Country with Sophie and the BFG. They giggle at the giant's funny, mixed-up words, like "whizzpopping". They make faces when they imagine what a yucky, bumpy snozzcumber tastes like. I help remind everyone that being brave is important. And having a good friend is the best magic there is. I will always be here on the shelf, waiting to share a happy, golden dream with you.
