Just want The Lord of the Rings?
When you open me, my pages whisper a secret. Inside, there are cozy little homes built under soft, green hills. This is where heroes with big, fuzzy feet live. My world also has sparkly forests with tall, wise elves. And deep, deep caves are full of treasure guarded by grumpy dwarves. A very brave little hobbit must go on a big, big journey to help his friends. I am a very special book. I am the story of The Lord of the Rings.
A very kind and clever man dreamed me up. His name was J.R.R. Tolkien. He loved telling stories so much that he even made up brand new languages for my world. He started writing me down with his pen a long, long time ago, around the year 1937. For many years, he imagined my world, which he called Middle-earth. He even drew pretty maps of its tall mountains and winding rivers. He worked and worked until I was just right. When he was finally done, I was ready to be shared as a big book for everyone to read, starting on July 29th, 1954.
When people first turned my pages, they went on an amazing adventure without ever leaving their chairs. It was so exciting. They learned that even the smallest person can be the biggest hero. They also learned that having good friends is the most powerful magic of all. Today, children and grown-ups still read my story. They watch movies about my world and play games as my brave heroes. I hope my story reminds you that you are brave and strong, and that with your friends beside you, you can do anything.
