The story

The Tale of Peter Rabbit

I am a little book. I am small and fit right in your hands. When you turn my pages, they make a soft, whispering sound. Shhh. Inside me, you can see pictures of yummy green vegetables. You can see a warm, cozy rabbit hole under a big tree. And you can see a little bunny wearing a bright blue jacket. I am a story full of adventure. I am The Tale of Peter Rabbit.

A very kind woman named Beatrix Potter made me. She loved animals so, so much. One day, a long, long time ago, on September 4th, 1893, she wrote a special letter. The letter was for a little boy named Noel who was sick. To make him feel better, she told him my story and drew pictures of my bunny family. There was Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cotton-tail. And of course, there was the little bunny who loved adventures, Peter. Beatrix loved the story so much, she wanted all children to read it. So she made me into a real book. On October 2nd, 1902, I was ready for you with all my colorful pictures.

Since that day, I have been a friend for story time. I love to hear you giggle when Peter Rabbit sneaks under the garden gate. I love to hear you say 'Oh no.' when Mr. McGregor is looking for him. My story is about being curious and a little bit naughty. But it is also about coming home to a warm hug. I help you dream of big gardens and tiny bunnies. I show you that even the smallest bunny can have the biggest adventure.
