Just want Bathukamma?
Hello there. My name is Betsy Ross, and I love to sew. I have a cozy little sewing shop in a city called Philadelphia. A long, long time ago, in the year 1776, I had some very important visitors. Three men knocked on my door, and one of them was General George Washington. He was a very kind leader. He told me that our country was new and needed its very own flag. A flag is like a special hello that you can see from far away. He asked if I could help make one. I felt so excited. I said, 'Yes, I can.'.
We talked about what our new flag should look like. We decided to use three colors. We chose red for being brave, white for being good, and blue for being fair. We planned to make long red and white stripes. And on a patch of blue, just like the sky, we wanted to put bright white stars. General Washington showed me a drawing of a star with six points, but I had a better idea. I took my scissors and, with just one little snip, I cut a perfect star with five points. It was like magic. I got my best cloth and started to sew our beautiful new flag together.
I sewed and sewed until the flag was all done. It had thirteen red and white stripes and thirteen white stars in a circle on the blue sky. The circle of stars showed that we were all working together like one big family. Seeing it finished made my heart feel so happy and proud. That flag flew high for everyone to see. I grew old and passed away many years ago, but the flag I helped create is still a special symbol for our country. It reminds everyone that when we work together, we can make something beautiful and important.
