The story

Canada Day - Canadian

Hello! I am Canada Day. I am a very special day for the country of Canada. You can think of me as a big birthday party for the whole country! My day happens during the warm summer. People celebrate me every year on the first day of July.

Many people have a lot of fun on my day. Families and friends get together to enjoy the sunshine. Some people go to a parade. Parades are full of music and amazing things to see. Big, decorated floats move slowly down the street for everyone to watch. It is a very happy time. It is a day for communities to come together and have fun outside.

On my day, you will see two colors almost everywhere you look: red and white. These are the special colors of Canada's flag. The Canadian flag is red and white with a red maple leaf in the center. To celebrate, people wear red and white clothes. They might wear a red shirt or white shorts. Many people also hold and wave small Canadian flags. Waving the flag is a way to show they feel proud and happy.

When the sun goes down and the sky gets dark, there is often one more special event. In many towns and cities, people gather to watch big fireworks shows. The fireworks zoom up into the sky and burst into bright, beautiful colors. They sparkle and pop, lighting up the whole night. It is a wonderful way to end a fun day of celebration.
