The story

A Special Day for Children in Mexico

Hello! I am a very special holiday. I am Children's Day in Mexico. In Spanish, my name is Día del Niño. I am a day all about celebrating children. It is a time to show them how much they are loved and how important they are. People celebrate me every year on the same day. My date is April 30th, which is in the lovely springtime.

School is extra fun when people celebrate me. There are no regular lessons with books or numbers. Instead, schools have big parties for all the children! They get to run and play exciting games together with their friends. There is often happy music for dancing and singing along. Some children dress up in fun costumes, and others might get colorful paint on their faces to look like butterflies or superheroes. And there are always yummy treats! Children might get to eat sweet candy or a big slice of delicious cake. It is a day full of excitement at school.

My celebration continues at home with families, too. Families find many happy ways to spend the day together. Parents and other family members often give special gifts to the children. A child might get a brand new toy to play with or a fun book to read. Some families go on special outings. They might go to a park to play outside in the sunshine. They could visit a museum to see interesting things. Or, they might go to the movies to watch a funny film. I am a day for families to be together and show their children how truly special they are.
