The story

I Am Dashain

Hello! I am a happy festival called Dashain. People in Nepal and Nepali families all over the world celebrate me. My celebration is a very special time. It is a time for everyone to remember an important story. This story tells about how good wins against evil, and it fills the air with joy.

During my observance, families come together from near and far. It is a wonderful time for relatives to see each other. Everyone dresses up in their beautiful new clothes. They share delicious meals with special foods that are made just for this time. An important tradition is the blessing from the elders. Older family members, like grandparents, put a red mark on the foreheads of the younger ones. This special mark is called a 'tika.' It is a sign of love and a wish for good things to come.

My celebration is also full of fun and games for everyone, especially children. If you look up at the sky, you will see many colorful kites. Children love to fly their kites high up in the breeze, watching them dance and dip. Another exciting activity is swinging on giant swings made of bamboo. These swings are called 'pings.' They are built to be very tall, and people swing way up high, laughing as they go.

I am a time for families to be together and share happy moments. From the special blessings and tasty food to the fun of flying kites and riding on the swings, my celebration brings smiles to many faces.
