Just want Vaisakhi?
Hello! I am Vaisakhi. I am a happy festival that arrives in the springtime. Spring is a lovely time of year when the sun feels warm and new flowers start to bloom. My celebration happens when farmers have worked hard all season. Their crops in the fields are tall and ready to be picked. This is called the harvest, and it is a time to be thankful for the food that has grown. In a part of the world called Punjab, many people celebrate me as a harvest festival. For them, I am also a time to welcome the start of a brand-new year. It is a time for joy and fresh beginnings for everyone.
I am also a very special and important day for people who follow the Sikh religion. My day marks a very important time in their history from long, long ago. On this day, a special community for Sikhs was created. This community is called the Khalsa. The Khalsa is a family of people who share the same beliefs and promise to be kind, brave, and helpful to others. Because this important group was formed during my observance, I am like a special birthday for the Sikh faith, and it is remembered with great happiness.
People celebrate me with lots of color, music, and fun. They dress up in their most beautiful, bright clothes, often in sunny colors like yellow and orange, to match the happy feeling of spring. Many people go to parades that move through the streets. These parades are filled with happy music and joyful singing that everyone can enjoy. One of the most important parts of my celebration is sharing. People cook delicious food and share it with everyone around them. They make sure that all their friends, neighbors, and visitors have plenty to eat, so no one feels hungry on this special day. It is a wonderful day of celebrating and caring for each other.
