The story

My Story, by a Bicycle

Hello there. I am a friendly bicycle. I have two wheels, handlebars to hold, and a comfy seat just for you. Before I was invented, everyone had to walk. Walk, walk, walk. Their feet would get so tired, and it was very, very slow. But I was created to bring fun and speed to the world. I love to go fast. Whee. I help you feel the wind on your face. I was so excited to roll into the world and go on adventures with my friends. Do you want to hear my story and learn how I came to be your favorite ride-along toy.

My story begins a long, long time ago. A very clever man named Karl von Drais made the very first me on June 12th, 1817. I looked a little different back then. I was made of wood. I had two wheels and a seat, but something very important was missing. I had no pedals. To make me move, children had to push off the ground with their feet, just like a scooter. Push, push, and then glide. It was fun, but I wanted to go faster. One happy day, I finally got pedals. They were attached to my front wheel. Now, you could push the pedals 'round and 'round to make me go. I could zoom down the path. I wasn't just a walking machine anymore. I was a real bicycle.

Today, I am one of your best friends for outdoor fun. I come in all your favorite colors, like bright red, sunny yellow, and cool blue. I have a soft seat to make your ride comfy and easy-to-hold handlebars so you always feel safe. Some of my bicycle friends even have a shiny bell that you can ring. Ring-ring. Let's go for a ride. I love helping you explore your neighborhood and visit the park. When you ride me, you are strong and fast. We can have so many wonderful adventures together, feeling the happy wind as we roll along the sidewalk. It is my favorite thing to do.
