The story

A Warm Hug for Your Home

Have you ever felt a little chilly on a cold day? Brrr. My name is Central Heating, and I have the best job in the world. My job is to give your whole house a big, warm hug. When the wind blows outside and the windows get frosty, I wake up and get to work. I make sure your bedroom is snuggly when you wake up and your playroom is toasty for all your toys. I am like a big, invisible blanket that wraps around everyone inside to keep them warm and comfy all day long.

My story started a long, long, long time ago, on December 1st, in a sunny place called Ancient Rome. The people there were very clever. They wanted their big bathhouses and homes to be warm, even when it was cool outside. So, they built a special, safe fire in a room down below. Then, whoosh. They let me, their new friend, be a secret warm breath. I would travel through special little tunnels they built right under the floors and even inside the walls. I would tiptoe through the tunnels, making the floors warm for their feet and the whole room feel like a gentle, sunny day.

Now, I live in houses just like yours. You might not always see me, but I am there. Sometimes I am a quiet white box on the wall. Sometimes you can feel me puffing warm air from a little vent on the floor, like a soft whisper. My favorite thing in the whole wide world is keeping you and your family cozy and happy. So the next time you feel a little puff of warm air when you’re playing, that’s just me saying, “Hello, friend. I’m here to keep you warm.”
