Just want Tesla Coil?
Hello there. My name is the Tesla Coil, and I have a very flashy job. I look like a tall tower with a shiny silver donut sitting right on my head. My creator was a brilliant man, a super-inventor named Nikola Tesla. Around the year 1891, he had a big, wonderful dream, and I was the key to making it come true. My whole purpose was to do something nobody had ever seen before. I was built to make beautiful, crackling lightning bolts right inside a room. It sounds a little scary, but it was all part of Nikola's amazing plan to change the world with electricity.
Before I was born, sending electricity from one place to another was a messy business. The world was tangled in long, clumsy wires that had to be strung up on poles and run into every single house. Nikola Tesla looked at all those wires and thought, “There must be a better way.”. His magical idea sparked in 1891. He wondered, what if we could send power through the air itself, like a secret message, with no wires at all. Imagine lights turning on without being plugged in. He built me in his laboratory in New York to test this amazing dream. He would spend hours and hours tinkering with my parts, his eyes full of excitement. He believed in me, and he knew I could show everyone the power of his idea.
I’ll never forget the first time Nikola turned me on. At first, I felt a little hum deep inside me. The hum grew louder and louder until it was a mighty buzz that filled the whole room with energy. I felt all tingly. Then, with a loud ZAP, it happened. I shot out my very first lightning bolt. It was a beautiful purple spark that danced in the air, reaching for the other side of the room. I was so proud. I had taken just a little bit of electricity from the wall and used my special coils to turn it into super-duper strong electricity that could jump through the air. This little spark proved that Nikola’s big idea could really work.

Nikola Tesla's dream of sending electricity to everyone's homes without any wires didn't happen exactly the way he planned. But that's okay, because my design helped inspire so many other amazing inventions. The special way I work with electricity helped other inventors understand how to create things like radios that could send music through the air, and televisions that could send pictures. Even some of the wireless chargers you use for phones today use ideas that started with me. Now, I often live in science museums. I get to show kids just like you the magic of electricity, and I hope I remind everyone to dream big, just like my amazing creator, Nikola Tesla, did.
