Just want Hi'iaka?
In a beautiful, sunny place called Hawaiʻi, there lived a kind girl named Hiʻiaka. The sand on the beaches was warm, and bright red lehua flowers grew everywhere. Her big sister was named Pele. Pele was very strong and powerful, like a big, sleeping volcano on a mountain. One day, Pele gave Hiʻiaka a special, smooth egg to take care of. Hiʻiaka kept the egg warm and safe, and soon a little friend hatched out. Not long after, her sister asked her to go on a long journey. This is the story of that special trip, which people call The Journey of Hiʻiaka.
Hiʻiaka promised she would go. She started her long, long walk across the beautiful islands. She walked and walked through green forests filled with tall ʻōhiʻa trees. As she walked, she sang a happy song to make the flowers grow big and bright. She danced a little dance to make the streams giggle and flow happily. The little birds with colorful feathers chirped hello as she passed by. Hiʻiaka was very gentle with every tiny plant and every little creature. Her journey was long, but her heart was full of love for her home. She wanted to protect it and be a friend to the land.
When Hiʻiaka finally came home, her heart felt full like the bright sun. Her journey was over, and she had learned so much about being brave and kind. Her big adventure taught her that loving your family and your home is the strongest and best power of all. Today, when people see the beautiful ʻōhiʻa lehua trees, they remember her story. They remember how important it is to take care of the wonderful islands of Hawaiʻi and to always be kind to each other. Her story lives on, like a happy song that never ends.
