The Story of Rama and the Festival of Lights
Once upon a time, in a sunny, green forest, lived a kind prince named Rama. He lived with his wonderful wife, Sita, and his brave brother, Lakshmana. They had a cozy little cottage. Chirpy birds sang in the tall, tall trees. Friendly deer ate soft green grass nearby. Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana were happy, happy, happy. They loved their peaceful home in the big, warm forest. But a big change was coming. This is the story of the Ramayana.
One day, a tricky king from a faraway island came to the forest. His name was Ravana, and he took beautiful Sita away. Oh no. Rama was very sad. But Rama was also very brave. He and his brother Lakshmana went to look for Sita. They looked and looked. Then, they met a new friend. It was a super-strong monkey named Hanuman. Hanuman was so strong he could jump over mountains. Jump, jump, jump. He was a very good helper. Hanuman and his big army of monkey friends wanted to help Rama. Together, they built a magic bridge across the big blue ocean. They put stones in the water, and the stones floated. What a wonderful bridge.
Rama was a hero. After a big adventure, he rescued Sita. Hooray. They traveled all the way back home together. When they got home, everyone was waiting. Everyone was so, so happy. To show how happy they were, they lit little clay lamps called diyas. The lamps glowed and glowed. Their warm, bright light lit up the path for Rama and Sita. The little lights showed that good things win. Today, people still tell this story and light lamps for a happy festival called Diwali. The lights remind everyone that being a good friend is like a bright, shining light in the dark.
