The story

The Legend of Mulan

My name is Hua Hu. I am Mulan’s father. We lived in a quiet, happy village. My daughter Mulan had a big, bright smile. I loved to hear her loom go click-clack, click-clack. It was a happy sound. One day, a man came with a message. The message was from the big Emperor. Our house became very quiet. My heart felt sad. I was worried. This is the story about my brave Mulan. It is called The Legend of Mulan.

The Emperor needed help. One man from every house had to go help him. But I am old. My legs are not strong. Mulan saw I was sad. She had a secret plan. Shhh! That night, she cut her long, beautiful hair. Snip, snip! She put on my big, heavy armor. Clank, clank! Before the sun said hello, she tiptoed out the door. She got on our fast horse and rode away. Gallop, gallop! Mulan did this because she loved me very much. She wanted to keep me safe.

We missed Mulan for a long, long time. Every day we missed her. Then one sunny morning, a hero came to our village. Guess who it was? It was Mulan! She was so brave and so smart. She helped everyone and kept them safe. The Emperor wanted to give her shiny presents. But Mulan said, 'No, thank you.' She just wanted to come home. I gave her the biggest, biggest hug. My brave Mulan was home! Mulan’s story shows us that being brave comes from a loving heart. Love makes you strong.
