The story

The Sun and the Moon

Hello. I am Dalsun. I live way up in the sky. But I used to live on the ground with my brother, Haesik. We lived with our mommy in a little, cozy house in the big mountains. One day, Mommy had to go to the village. She said, 'Be good. Do not open the door for anyone.' We said, 'Okay, Mommy.' This is the story of The Sun and the Moon.

After Mommy left, we heard a knock. Knock. Knock. Knock. A deep voice said, 'It's Mommy. Let me in.' My brother Haesik listened. He said, 'That is not our mommy's voice.' He was very smart. We said, 'Show us your hand.' We looked through a little crack in the door. We saw a big, furry paw. It had pointy claws. Oh no. It was a tricky tiger. We did not cry. We were very quiet. We tiptoed to the back door. We ran outside very fast. We saw a big, tall tree. We climbed up, up, up into the green leaves. We hid in the big, tall tree.

The tricky tiger looked up. He saw us in the tree. He tried to climb, but his paws slipped. Slip. Slide. Down he went. We were scared. We closed our eyes. We said, 'Please, please help us.' Then, something amazing happened. A long, shiny rope came down from the sky. It was a golden rope. We grabbed the rope. We climbed up, up, up. We went past the leaves. We went into the big blue sky. The tiger looked up and yelled, 'I want a rope too.' An old, bumpy rope came down for him. When the tiger climbed, the rope went SNAP. Up in the sky, a kind Sky King said my brother Haesik would be the bright Sun. And because I was shy, I became the gentle Moon. We shine for you every day and every night.
