Barefoot College

Hello! We are Barefoot College. We are a very special kind of school for grown-ups. Our school started a long time ago in a country called India. Our job is to help people in villages learn new skills. When people learn new things, they can make their villages even better places to live for everyone.

Who comes to our school to learn? Our students are often grandmothers! Grandmothers travel from their homes all over the world to come learn with us. We think it is wonderful to have so many smart and caring grandmothers here.

We teach the grandmothers how to use power from the sun. The sun is very strong and bright. We show them how to use its light to make electric lights for their homes. When they learn how to do this, they become helpers called “solar engineers.” It is a very important job.

After they finish learning, the grandmothers go back to their villages. They bring the knowledge of how to make lights with them. Now, their families and friends can have light when it gets dark outside. This helps children do their homework and helps everyone feel safe at night.

We also show people how to collect clean water. Clean water is important for staying healthy and strong. And we don’t just teach grown-ups! We have special schools for children, too, so they can learn and grow. We believe everyone deserves a chance to learn something new.
