The story

We Are CERN: Exploring Our World

Hello! We are a group of helpers called CERN. That is a short name for the European Organization for Nuclear Research. We are scientists who come from many different countries to work together as a team. Scientists are people who love to ask questions and discover new things about our world. Our special laboratory where we work is in a place called Europe. We are all friends who want to learn amazing things together.

What do we do in our laboratory? We build very big machines to help us see very small things. These things are the tiniest parts of everything around you. They are like tiny, tiny building blocks. Think about the smallest piece of your favorite toy or a tiny crumb of your snack. We want to see what is even smaller than that! One of our machines is a giant tunnel. It is so big, and it is deep underground. We use our special tools to learn what makes up the whole world, from the food you eat to the bright stars you see in the sky at night.

When we learn something new, we get very excited to share it! We believe sharing ideas helps everyone learn. A scientist who worked with us had a wonderful idea. He invented something called the World Wide Web. The World Wide Web helps people all over the world share pictures and stories on their computers. It helps us all talk to each other. Today, we still work hard every day to explore the tiny building blocks of the universe. And we promise to keep sharing everything we find with you and with everyone.
