The story

Helping the Galápagos Islands

Hello! We are the Charles Darwin Foundation. We have a very important job in a very special place. This place is made of many islands far out in the ocean. It is called the Galápagos Islands. The islands are a beautiful home for so many amazing animals and pretty plants. You can find animals here that you can’t find anywhere else in the world! Our main job is to help protect all the wonderful living things here. We work hard every day to keep the animals safe and the plants healthy.

To do our job, we have a special science building. It is called the Charles Darwin Research Station. Many scientists come to our station to work and learn. Scientists are helpers who ask lots of questions. They study the unique animals that live on the islands. They learn all about the giant tortoises, which are very big and can live for a very long time. They also watch the funny birds that have bright blue feet! The scientists watch all the animals carefully. This helps them make sure the animals are healthy and happy in their island homes.

Everything the scientists learn helps us do our job of protecting the islands. We use this important information to keep the animal and plant homes safe from harm. We do not do this big job all by ourselves. We work together as a team with many other people who also want to help the islands. By working together, we can protect the homes where the giant tortoises walk and where the blue-footed birds make their nests. We want the Galápagos to stay a special and wonderful place for a long, long time.
