The story

A Story from the Make-A-Wish Foundation

Hello! We are the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Our name tells you what we do. We help make special wishes come true for children. We are a team of helpers who work to bring joy and hope to children who need it most.

Our story began a long time ago, in the year 1980. It all started with a brave young boy named Chris Greicius. Chris was very sick, and he had a very big wish. His biggest wish was to be a police officer for a day. He dreamed of wearing a uniform and helping people.

Many kind people wanted to help Chris. They all worked together to make his special dream a reality. They helped him feel like a real police officer. Seeing Chris so happy and proud gave everyone a wonderful idea. It was an idea about helping more children just like him.

That idea was to become the Make-A-Wish Foundation. We decided to help other children with serious illnesses. We do this by granting their one true wish. Every child’s wish is different and special to them. A wish gives a child something happy to look forward to.

What kind of wishes do we grant? Some children wish to meet their favorite hero. Other children wish to visit a magical place, like a castle or a theme park. Whatever the wish is, we work hard to make it happen. It is a day just for them.

A wish is more than just a fun day. When a wish comes true, it helps a child feel strong and brave. It makes them feel happy and fills them with hope. Today, we continue our work of bringing that special happiness to children.
