Rainforest Alliance

Hello! We are the Rainforest Alliance. Have you ever wondered where your favorite chocolate or sweet bananas come from? Many of them grow in warm, rainy places called rainforests. These forests are amazing homes for countless animals, plants, and people. We believe it’s very important to protect them. Our story began in 1987 in a big city called New York. A group of people realized that many forests around the world were being cut down. They knew this was a big problem for the planet, for the animals that were losing their homes, and for the people who relied on the forest. They decided to work together to find a solution, and that’s how we were born. Our main goal is to protect the world's rainforests and help everyone who depends on them.

One of the most important ways we do this is with a special symbol that you can look for when you go shopping. Have you ever seen a little green frog on a package of coffee or a bunch of bananas? That’s our seal! We chose a frog because frogs are very sensitive. They need clean water and a healthy environment to live. If you find lots of healthy frogs living in a forest, it’s a good sign that the forest is healthy, too. When you see our green frog seal, it’s a message. It tells you that the food inside was grown on a farm that works hard to protect nature. This means the farmers try not to harm the forest, they protect the water, and they take care of the soil. It also means they treat their workers fairly, making sure they are safe and respected.

To make our work even better and stronger, we know that teamwork is key. In 2018, we joined together with another group called UTZ that had similar goals. By combining our teams, we became a larger group that could help in even more places. Today, we work with farmers, businesses, and communities in more than 70 countries all around the globe. We help farmers learn new ways to grow their crops that are better for the environment. For example, they might learn how to use less water or how to plant trees that give shade to their crops and provide homes for birds.

Our work helps everyone. It helps keep forests standing tall, which is good for our planet’s air and climate. It protects rivers and streams, keeping the water clean for animals and people. And it helps farmers earn a good living so they can take care of their families and continue to farm in a way that is good for the Earth. We believe that people and nature can live and grow together. By making smart choices and working as a team, we can all help create a healthier, happier world for every living thing.
