The City That Shines by the Sea
I sparkle right next to the big, blue sea. Boats with white sails bob up and down in my harbor, saying hello to the sun. The air feels warm and smells like salty water. I am a city full of happy stories, bright sunshine, and friendly faces. I am Alexandria.
A long, long time ago, a very brave king came to visit. His name was Alexander the Great. On a sunny day in the year 331 BCE, he looked at my beautiful shore and had a big idea. He thought this spot by the Mediterranean Sea was the perfect place for a brand new city. He wanted me to be a special place where friends from all over the world could meet each other, share yummy snacks, and tell wonderful stories. He wanted me to be a home for everyone.
Soon, I had a giant house just for stories. It was the Great Library, the biggest in the whole world. It was like a treasure chest filled with thousands and thousands of scrolls. Scrolls are like special rolled-up books with amazing drawings and words inside. Then, around the year 280 BCE, my people built a super tall lighthouse. It was a tower that reached for the sky. It had a bright, twinkling light at the very top to help sailors on their boats find their way home safely at night.
Today, I am still a busy, happy city in a country called Egypt. People visit to splash in my waves and walk where my amazing library once stood. I love being a place where new friends meet and new stories are made every single day. The sunshine and the sea help me keep the old magic alive for everyone to share.
