The Sparkly Ocean at the Top of the World
I am at the very top of the world, where everything is white and sparkly. I wear a big, beautiful blanket of floating ice. Big, fluffy polar bears walk across my icy coat, and shiny seals pop their heads up from my chilly water to say hello. I love my animal friends. At night, colorful lights dance in the sky above me like giant, glowing ribbons. They are so pretty. I am a quiet, wonderful, and very cold place. I am the Arctic Ocean.
For a very, very long time, I was a big secret. Then, brave people called the Inuit came to live near me. They built warm homes from my snow and became my oldest friends. They know all my secrets. Much later, other friends came in big, strong ships. They wanted to find the North Pole, which is a special spot right in my middle. A long, long, long time ago, a man sailed near me and saw my ice. But it took many, many years for people to walk all the way to my center. On April 19th, 1968, some very brave explorers finally reached my North Pole. I was so happy to meet them.
I am more than just a cold ocean. I am like a giant air conditioner for the whole world. My ice helps keep our planet comfy and cool for everyone. I am a home for so many amazing animals, and I keep them safe. Today, kind people visit me to learn how to keep me and my animal friends healthy. They want to make sure my ice blanket stays thick and strong. You can help, too, by taking good care of our beautiful Earth. Then I can keep sparkling at the top of the world for a long, long time.
