Just want Ciudad Perdida?
I am hidden deep in a jungle, high on a mountain in Colombia. Waterfalls sing all around me, and bright blue butterflies flutter past my stone steps. To find me, you have to climb a long, winding path through the tall trees. I am a secret made of stone circles and green terraces, a city that slept for a very, very long time. Monkeys chatter in the branches above my plazas, and the air is warm and misty. For hundreds of years, almost no one knew I was here. They thought I was just a legend. I am Ciudad Perdida, the Lost City.
A long, long time ago, around the year 800, clever people called the Tairona chose this mountain to be their home. They were amazing builders. Using only their hands and simple tools, they cut big stones from the mountain and built over 150 terraces. These terraces look like giant green stairs climbing up the hillside. On top of the flat stone circles, families lived in cozy round houses with roofs made of palm leaves. I was a busy, happy place. Children would run along the stone paths, and people would gather in the main plaza to talk and celebrate. They farmed corn and beans on my terraces and created beautiful gold jewelry. I was not just a city. I was a thriving home filled with laughter, farming, and special ceremonies.
I was happy for many hundreds of years. But then, in the late 1500s, everything changed. Strangers arrived in the land, and my people had to leave me to find safety. It was very sad. The paths grew quiet, and the houses became empty. Slowly, the jungle grew all around me. Green vines wrapped around my stone walls, and thick trees grew in my plazas. I was covered by a soft green blanket of leaves and moss. For almost 400 years, I slept peacefully. The monkeys, colorful birds, and quiet jaguars were my only visitors. My story became a whisper in the wind, a secret kept by the mountains.

Then, one amazing day in 1972, some explorers who were searching for treasures found me again. It was so exciting to feel footsteps on my paths once more. Soon after, in 1976, archaeologists arrived. They were like detectives of the past. They carefully brushed away the leaves and dirt to see my beautiful stone circles and terraces. Today, people from all over the world come to visit. They climb my 1,200 stone steps to see my plazas and imagine what life was like for the Tairona people. The descendants of the Tairona, like the Kogi and Arhuaco people, still live in these mountains and help protect me. I am not lost anymore. I am a special place that connects the past to today, reminding everyone of the amazing people who built a city in the clouds.
