The story

The Island of Giant Lizards

I am a place with warm, sunny islands floating in sparkly blue water. The sun tickles your skin, and gentle waves sing a soft song. Guess who lives here? Giant, slow-moving lizards with long, flicking tongues. They are my special friends. I am Komodo National Park, a safe home for amazing animals in a country called Indonesia.

A long time ago, people learned about my special lizards, the Komodo dragons. They are the biggest lizards in the whole world. To make sure they would always have a safe place to live, people made me into a special park on March 6th, 1980. Then, in the year 1991, friends from all over the world agreed I was a treasure. They promised to help take care of me and all my animal families, from the gentle deer in my grassy fields to the colorful fish in my waters.

Today, I am a happy, busy home. My dragons love to warm themselves in the sunshine. In my blue waters, big, graceful manta rays swim like they are flying. Families come to visit me and their eyes get wide when they see my giant lizards. I love showing them how wonderful my animals are. I am a reminder for everyone to be kind to our planet and protect all its amazing creatures, big and small.
