I am a magical island with a castle that touches the clouds. Sometimes, the sea rushes in and surrounds me completely, making me a real island. Other times, the water whispers away, and you can walk to me across wet, shiny sand. My pointy tower shines in the sun. I am Mont-Saint-Michel.
My story began a very, very long time ago. In the year 708, a kind man named Bishop Aubert had a dream about an angel. The angel asked him to build a special church right on top of me. So, people came and started to build. It was like building with blocks but much bigger. They built walls and rooms and a beautiful abbey where monks lived and prayed. For hundreds of years, more and more was added, making me taller and stronger.
For a long time, I was a strong fort that kept people safe. People would travel for many days just to visit me. Today, I am a special place for everyone. Families and friends from all over the world come to see me. They climb my winding streets, peek into the little shops, and look up at the big abbey. They watch the super-fast tide come in and out. I love sharing my story, reminding everyone that even a little rock in the sea can become something wonderful.
