Just want San Agustín Archaeological Park?
In a land of green, soft mountains, I hide a happy secret. If you walk through my tall grass, you will see friendly faces peeking out at you. They are not people, but they are my good friends. They are made of stone. Some have big, round eyes and wide, happy smiles. Some look like strong animals, like jaguars or eagles. They are my guardians, watching over my green hills day and night. They love when children come to visit and play hide-and-seek. Hello there. I am the San Agustín Archaeological Park.
A very, very long time ago, special people lived here in my green mountains. They were like artists. They took big, gray stones and carved my friends. Tap, tap, tap. They made each one special. These stone friends were made to be guardians. They watched over the quiet resting places of important people, keeping them safe. The artists were very creative. They carved a person with the face of a jaguar to show they were strong. They carved another with the wings of an eagle to show they could fly high. They were telling stories with stone.
Today, I am a special treasure. On December 6th, 1995, people from all over the world said I was very important and must be protected forever. Now, friends from everywhere come to walk my paths. They look at my stone guardians and wonder about the people who made them so long ago. My stone friends cannot talk, but they share their secrets with you if you listen with your heart. They remind everyone to be creative and dream big.
