The story

The Whispering Woods of Sherwood Forest

I have tall, leafy arms that reach for the sun. My floor is a soft carpet of green leaves where little bugs crawl. Can you hear the birds singing songs in my branches? Tweet, tweet. Squirrels love to run up and down my tree trunks, playing tag. I am a big, wonderful place full of sleepy trees and happy animals. I am a secret, special place. Do you know who I am? I am Sherwood Forest. I live in a country called England. I am very, very old and full of stories for you to discover.

I have been standing here for a very, very long time, long before your grandparents were born. A long time ago, after the year 1066, kings and queens would visit me. They thought I was a beautiful place. But I am most famous for a kind hero. Have you ever heard of Robin Hood? Stories say that he lived here with his friends. It was a long, long time ago, around the 1300s. He wore a green hat and was very good with his bow and arrow. My big, strong trees were his secret hideout. He would play and hide among my leaves, and I kept him safe.

Today, you can come and visit me. I love it when children play hide-and-seek behind my big trees. I have a very old and special tree called the Major Oak. He is so big, you could give him a giant hug. On a special day, April 27th, 2002, I became a special park to keep all my trees and animals safe. I love to hear you laugh and see you run. I will always be here, ready for your next adventure. I am here to remind you that stories are everywhere.
