Just want Sherwood Forest?
Listen closely. Can you hear the wind whispering through my leaves. My branches are old and twisty, reaching for the sky like gnarled fingers. Birds build their nests high up in my canopy, and squirrels chase each other up and down my strong trunks. For more than a thousand years, I have stood here, keeping secrets and watching the world change. I am a place of adventure and mystery, a home for heroes and kings. I am Sherwood Forest.
My story began a very, very long time ago. After a big event called the Norman Conquest in 1066, I became a special place for kings and queens. They called me a royal hunting forest. Imagine powerful rulers, like King John, riding their horses under my branches, searching for deer to hunt. I was their giant park. It was around this time that my oldest and most famous resident began to grow. A tiny acorn fell to the ground and sprouted, slowly growing into a giant tree that people now call the Major Oak. He was just a little sapling back then, but he saw everything.
As the years passed, people began to tell a new story about me, a tale that would make me famous all over the world. Around the 14th century, whispers of a brave hero filled my woods. His name was Robin Hood. They said he and his friends, the Merry Men, lived deep within my shadows. My thick trees and winding paths were the perfect hiding place for them. People even say that the hollow trunk of my oldest tree, the Major Oak, was their secret meeting spot. Can you imagine them gathered inside, planning their next adventure while I kept them safe from harm.

Today, I am not as large as I once was, but my heart is still strong. I am a very important home for ancient trees, buzzing insects, and chirping birds. To make sure I would be safe forever, on July 23rd, 1969, I was named a National Nature Reserve. This means I am protected so that everyone can enjoy my beauty. Now, families come to walk on my paths, and children play beneath my branches. They listen for the whispers of Robin Hood and look up in wonder at the Major Oak. I am a place where history and nature live together, and I love sharing my stories with you.
