The story

The Pointy-Hat Houses of Alberobello

I am a village of little white houses all snuggled together under the warm, sunny sky. My walls are round and bright, and my roofs are pointy, like gray party hats reaching for the clouds. Some of my hats even have special pictures painted on them, like little secrets whispered to the sun and the moon. I love to feel the gentle breeze and see the happy children playing in my little streets. I am the Trulli of Alberobello.

I have a clever secret. A very, very long time ago, starting in the 1500s, families needed cozy homes to live in. So, they found smooth, flat stones and stacked them one on top of the other, like you stack your building blocks. They didn't use any sticky glue to hold the stones together. It was a special trick. This made me easy to build, and each little house was strong and cool inside, even when the sun was very hot. Every stone was placed with love to make a safe and happy home for families to laugh and grow in.

Today, I am still a happy, fairy-tale home. Families still live inside my cozy stone houses, and friends from all over the world come to visit me in Italy. They smile when they see my pointy hats. On December 6th, 1996, everyone decided I was so special that I should be protected forever. I am here to show you that even simple stones can build something beautiful and magical. I am a village made of love, cleverness, and happy dreams.
