The Ziggurat's Staircase to the Sky

Imagine you are standing in a warm, sunny place. The sand is soft under your feet, and the sky is big and blue. In front of you is a giant staircase made of millions and millions of little brown bricks, all stacked up carefully. It looks like giant steps going all the way up to the big, bright sun. I have big, wide stairs that you could climb, step by step, higher and higher. I love feeling the warm sun on my bricks. I am very, very big and very, very old. I was built in a special land between two sleepy rivers. People look up at me and say Wow. Do you know who I am? I am a Ziggurat.

A very, very long time ago, a kind king named Ur-Nammu had a wonderful idea. He wanted to build a special house that could reach up to the sky. He thought it would be a nice place for people to feel close to the moon and the stars. So, he asked all his friends to help. Lots and lots of people came to work together. They made bricks out of mud and water, just like you make mud pies. Then, they stacked the bricks one by one. Up, up, up they went. It was like building the biggest block tower in the world. At the very top, they built a beautiful little temple. It was like a shiny crown on my head, a special room for the sky.

I am very old now, and some of my bricks have crumbled away, but I still stand tall and proud. Today, friends from all over the world come to visit me. They look up at my giant stairs and imagine all the people who climbed them long ago. They smile and think about the king and all the helpers. I am here to remind everyone that when people work together with happy hearts, they can build amazing, wonderful things that tell a story forever and ever.
