The story

I am Communication Skills

Hi there. I’m Communication Skills. I’m the special ability that helps you share your thoughts and feelings, and also understand what other people are trying to say. I’m not just about talking. I’m also about listening carefully, noticing facial expressions, and choosing the right words to express yourself.

Let me show you how I work. Last Tuesday, the 4th, Leo and Maya were stuck on their science project. Leo wanted to build a volcano, but Maya wanted to make a model of the solar system. They started getting frustrated and stopped talking to each other. That’s when I stepped in. I helped Leo say, "I feel upset because I had a cool idea for an erupting volcano." Then, I helped Maya really listen and understand him. After sharing their ideas and listening to each other, they decided to create a model of a planet with volcanoes on it. They learned that working together using my help made their idea even better and more fun.

I am a skill you can build over your whole life. I continue to help people make friends, succeed in school and jobs, and build strong, happy relationships with their families. The more you practice with me, the stronger I get.
