The story

How to Keep Your Teeth Strong and Healthy

I want to talk about something called dental caries. That's the science name for cavities, which are tiny holes that can form in teeth. If you leave sugary food on your teeth, germs can use it to make a hole. I know that a dentist can see these little spots and helps fix them to keep your teeth strong.

Let me explain how that happens. Imagine tiny germs, which are sometimes called 'sugar bugs,' that live in your mouth. When you eat candy or drink juice, these germs eat the sugar left on your teeth. After their meal, they leave behind an acid. This acid is strong enough to make small holes in your tooth's protective layer, which is called enamel.

You have the power to stop cavities every day. First, you should squeeze a pea-sized dot of toothpaste onto your toothbrush. Use gentle circles to brush the outside and inside of all your top and bottom teeth. Next, scrub the flat chewing parts on top. It is also important to gently brush your tongue where germs hide. Finally, you can spit out all the foamy toothpaste and rinse with a little water.

Keeping your teeth free from caries helps you do important things, like crunching apples and carrots. It also gives you a bright, healthy smile that feels good. Regular visits to the dentist are also part of having a super smile, as they can clean and check for any tricky spots. Taking care of your teeth is important because it helps keep your smile healthy and your whole body strong.
