Just want Handwashing?
I think of handwashing as my simple superpower for controlling my own health. It is one of the best ways I can stop invisible germs from spreading and making people sick. I see it as a personal shield that I can activate anytime I need to protect myself and others.
I know that a microscopic world of germs, which are bacteria and viruses, lives on surfaces I touch every day, from doorknobs to my phone. While many of these germs are harmless, I understand that some can cause colds, the flu, or other illnesses if they get inside my body. The most important thing to remember is that I cannot see them. This is why washing them away is so important for staying healthy.
I follow five simple steps to make sure my hands are truly clean. First, I turn on clean, running water, and it can be warm or cold. Second, I get my hands wet and apply soap, rubbing them together to create a rich lather. Third, I scrub everywhere for at least 20 seconds. To time this, I often sing 'Happy Birthday' to myself twice. I make sure to scrub the backs of my hands, between my fingers, and under my nails, because germs love to hide in those spots. Fourth, I rinse all the soap and germs away under the running water. Finally, I dry my hands completely with a clean towel or let them air dry, because germs can be transferred more easily to and from wet hands.
I have learned the most critical times to wash my hands. I always wash them before I eat or prepare food so I don't transfer germs to my mouth. It is also vital for me to wash them after using the bathroom, after coughing, sneezing, or blowing my nose, and after touching garbage. I also make it a rule to wash my hands after being outside, playing with my pets, or visiting someone who is sick, just to make sure I remove any germs I may have picked up.

I understand that handwashing isn’t just about protecting myself; it’s about protecting my community. When I wash my hands, I prevent germs from spreading to my family, my friends at school, and my teammates. This simple action helps keep everyone I care about healthier and reduces the number of sick days we all have to take, meaning more time for fun and learning together.
Consistent handwashing has a real impact on my life. It means I get fewer colds and stomach bugs, which leads to more time for school, sports, and having fun with my friends. It is a fundamental life skill that gives me direct control over my health and well-being. This proves that one of the most effective health tools I can use is also one of the simplest.
