The story

Oryx's Desert Adventure

Hello! My name is Oryx, and I am an Arabian Oryx. I live in the big, warm, sandy desert. My coat is shiny and white. It helps me stay cool when the sun is very bright. Do you see my horns? They are very long and pointy, like two straight sticks on my head.

I love living with my family. We all walk together in a group to keep each other safe. We are always looking for yummy food. My favorite snacks are tasty green leaves and grasses. Sometimes, we have to walk a long, long way to find them. I have a super sniffer. I can smell when it has rained far away, which means new plants are growing for us to eat.

A long time ago, there were not many of my friends and family left in the desert. But some very kind people helped us. They made sure we were safe, and now there are lots of us again, playing in the sand. I have a very important job. By munching on plants, I help new seeds grow all over the desert. I am like a little gardener for my desert home.
