The story

A Betta Fish's Tale

Hello, I am a Betta fish. Some people also call me a Siamese fighting fish. My very first home was in the warm, shallow water of rice paddies in a country called Thailand. I love to swim and show off my beautiful fins. They are long and flow through the water like a sparkly dress. My fins shimmer with pretty colors like bright red, shiny blue, and sparkling green. I am a very colorful fish.

I have some special tricks that not many other fish can do. One of my tricks is that I can breathe air. I swim up to the top of the water and take a little gulp of air. I have a special labyrinth organ inside me that helps me do this. It is a neat trick. My other special trick is building a nest. I make a cozy nest for my eggs right on top of the water. I use tiny, little bubbles to build it. I blow lots and lots of bubbles to make a safe and floaty home for my babies.

I love to eat yummy snacks. My favorite foods are the tiny insects that buzz near the water. I swim very quietly and wait for them to get close. My story is about being a small but amazing fish. My bright colors and my graceful swimming bring joy to people who watch me in the water. I am a small but beautiful part of the world's amazing waterways.
