The story

The Bird with the Blue Feet

Hi there! I am a Blue-footed Booby. My family has been known to people since the year 1882. Can you guess my favorite color? It's blue! My feet are the brightest, sunniest blue you have ever seen. I love to show them off whenever I can. I think my feet are the best part of me, and they make me very happy.

I live near the big, wide ocean. When I get hungry, I fly high up in the sky and look down at the sparkly water. My eyes are very good at spotting yummy fish swimming below. When I see one, I point my beak down, fold my wings back, and WHOOSH! I dive straight into the water like an arrow. My streamlined body helps me dive super fast to catch my lunch. Splashing into the cool water is so much fun.

When I want to make a new friend, I do a special, happy dance. I lift one blue foot high in the air, then I lift the other one. Stomp, stomp, stomp! It is my way of saying, 'Look at my wonderful feet!' My dance and my super dives are all part of my life in my ocean home. They are very important because they help me and my family thrive and stay healthy.
