A Cheetah's Speedy Story
Hello! I am a cheetah. I live in the big, sunny fields of Africa where the sun makes the ground warm. My coat is a pretty sandy color, and it is covered all over with little black spots. My spots are very special. They are not just for looking nice. They help me play a game of hide-and-seek in the tall, yellow grass. When I hide, I can sneak up on my yummy lunch. It is my very own superpower for finding food.
My favorite thing to do is run, run, run. Did you know that I am the fastest animal on land? It is true. When I stretch my long legs, I go ZOOM across the fields. The wind rushes past my ears, and it feels like I am flying. When I was just a little cub, my mommy taught me and my brothers and sisters all about running. Cheetah cubs play during the cooler hours of morning and evening, resting during the heat of midday. She showed us how to chase each other through the tall grass. We also learned how to pounce. We would practice pouncing on wiggly leaves. It was so much fun to tumble and play while learning to be big, strong cheetahs.
All of my running and pouncing is a very important job. I am a hunter, and by being super-fast, I help keep the grasslands healthy. It helps make sure there are not too many of some animals and that everything stays just right. This is called keeping things balanced. I love being a cheetah. I get to run free under the big, blue sky. I am so happy to be a special part of our wonderful world, helping to take care of my home in my own cheetah way.
