Just want Clam?

The story

The Clam's Cozy Home

Hi there! I’m a Clam. I live deep down in the soft sand at the bottom of the water. My home is my shell, and it’s very special and cozy. My shell has two parts that fit perfectly together, just like a little house. I can open and close them to stay safe. When a tickly fish swims by, I close my shell up tight. This keeps me safe and sound in my sandy home under the water.

When I get hungry, I don't have to go anywhere at all. I just poke a tiny tube up out of the sand. This tube is called a siphon. It works just like a straw you might use for a drink. I use my siphon to sip in tiny bits of floating food from the water. Sip, sip, sip. It’s my favorite way to eat my dinner while I stay tucked away in my home.

My sipping and snacking is a very important job. By eating all the little floaty bits, I help keep the water clean and clear for all my friends. The crabs and the seahorses like it when the water is sparkly clean. I love being a little helper at the bottom of the big, blue sea. Keeping my home clean for everyone is the best job a clam can have.
