Krill's Big Swim
Hi there! My name is Krill. I am a super tiny creature, and I live in the big, cold ocean. I look like a little pink shrimp. I have two big, round eyes that help me see everything in the water. When the ocean is dark, I can do something special. I make my body glow with a soft, sparkly light. It's so pretty.
I am never alone in the water. I have millions and millions of brothers, sisters, and cousins. We all swim together in a giant group. Our group is called a swarm. When we all swim together, we look like a big, pink cloud moving through the water. Swish, swoosh, we all swim in the same direction. We love to eat. Our favorite snack is the tiny, tiny ocean plants that float all around us. We nibble on them all day long.
Being a tiny krill is a very important job. Do you know why? Because I am yummy food for some of the biggest animals in the world. Giant blue whales open their mouths wide to eat us. Happy penguins that waddle on the ice also love to eat me for dinner. Gulp! By being their food, I help all my big ocean friends grow strong and healthy. I am a tiny helper in the great big sea, and that makes me very proud. My story is important because I help keep the whole ocean family happy.
